Pros

  • Immesne library of both anime TV shows and movies
  • New episodes usually appear within an hour of their premier in Japan
  • Episodes don't have any ads

Cons

  • The large size of the library can sometimes make it hard to find particular shows
  • The videos aren't curated for quality. This means that it can be a little hard to quickly tell which series might be particularly noteworthy.

The Anistream app gives you the power to watch the greatest animated shows from Japan. This is all thanks to the fact that the app ties into the animesetream streaming service. By doing so users can select from one of the largest collections of streaming anime on the internet. People usually need to go to great lengths to track down which streaming services offer a particular series. And even then there are often further difficulties trying to differentiate between subtitled and dubbed anime. But the Animestream app cuts right through all of those complications to provide anime fans with what they're after.

Once a user finds a series he's interested in he can begin watching in seconds. The viewing experience is seamless. There are no advertisements or any other surprises to interrupt the narrative flow of the anime's stories. The app's attention to narrative immersion doesn't end there though.

The app provides both episode tracking and bookmarks. This is an especially important element for longer anime series. Anime as a medium tends to be very focused on telling a complete story. This can sometimes mean that shows wrap up in a single short season. But more often than not shows will go on for an impressive number of seasons. Keeping on top of what episode you've watched can normally turn into an elaborate game of record keeping. But the app makes it easy to bookmark and track your progress as you make your way through a series.

It's equally simple to keep up with new episodes of currently running shows. New episodes typically appear in the app within about an hour of their original airing in Japan. Again, this is all carefully curated and categorized so that new episodes will fit cleanly into existing lists of a series episodes.

The app's UI is also extremely easy to use. Most options within the app have all of the available suboptions clearly presented and explained. Even fairly advanced options are cleanly integrated into the system. For example, users can easily search for episodes between two set metrics when looking at a particular series. Individual shows are also presented with clean, descriptive, thumbnails. It's often easy to get an idea of what any given show is about simply by glancing at its thumbnail. Even switching between dubbed and subbed anime simply comes down to pressing an easy-to-find button.

Anime is presented with an easy to use, but also configurable, player. The playback system is fairly straightforward. But users do have the option of watching shows in a "picture in picture" type view on the side of the screen. This view makes it easy to multitask with another app while watching a show.
